Our iconic Corentin Necklace edited with a bold curb chain.
The "Corentin Necklace" is named after one of our friend who brought back those beautiful 5 yen coins from a trip to Japan.
The obverse of the coin depicts a rice plant growing out of the water, with "five yen" written in kanji. The reverse is stamped with "Japan" and the year of issue, separated by the sprouts of a tree. The three graphic elements of the coin represent agriculture and fisheries, the key elements of the Japanese first-sector economy. Around the central hole, there is a gear that represents industry. For those reasons, the coin in known to represent growth and wealth in Japanese culture and the 5 yen coin is believed to bring prosperity.
In addition to that, the pronunciation of the 5 yen - "go-en" in Japanese - is a homophone for a word that means "honorable connection / relationship".
As a result the 5 yen coin is believed to bring good luck both in terms of relationships and finances! People would throw these coins at a temple in hope for new love and fortune to arise...
Original Japanese coin plated in sterling silver and rhodium, mounted on 55cm sterling silver chain.
